Bolani: Thieves Break Into Locked Teacher’s Home, Decamp With Gold, Silver, and Cash; Recurring Thefts Raise Questions on Policing
Bolani: A spate of residential burglaries continues to plague the Bolani police station area, with the latest incident hitting a teacher’s locked home just a stone’s throw from the thana itself. Unidentified thieves targeted the quarter of DAV Public School teacher Rabinarayan Mishra, breaking locks and making off with gold jewellery, silver ornaments, and cash, while the victim was away for nearly a month. The brazen break‑in has once again exposed the growing sense of insecurity among township residents and raised serious questions about the effectiveness of local policing.
What happened
Rabinarayan Mishra, a teacher at DAV Public School and a native of Bhadrak district, resides at Quarter No. W/439 in the SAIL Residential Colony, Bolani. He had been out of station for about a month when, on the evening of June 13, 2026, a colleague called to inform him that the lock on his front door had been broken. Mishra rushed back and arrived at his quarter early the next morning, June 14. What he saw left him stunned.
Not only was the main door’s lock smashed, but the locks on all interior doors had also been forced open. Inside the bedroom, the steel almirah had been prised apart and its contents ransacked. The intruders had carefully picked through the valuables and made off with:
- Gold: 4 finger rings, 1 pair of earrings, 2 bangles
- Silver: 2 pairs of paunji (anklets)
- Cash: ₹6,000
The entire house was left in disarray, with clothes and papers strewn across the floor. The teacher immediately reported the matter to the Bolani police station, submitting a written complaint and requesting an FIR be registered, an investigation conducted, and the stolen items recovered.
Pattern of recurring thefts
This is far from an isolated incident. The Bolani police station area has witnessed a steady rise in thefts and burglaries over the past several months. Homes and shops alike have been targeted, often while the occupants are away. Despite this, there has been no visible improvement in patrolling or surveillance. Local residents are increasingly vocal about their anger and fear, demanding the administration take concrete action before more families fall victim.
Will the police step up?
The pressing question now is whether the Bolani police can trace the culprits or if this case, like many before it, will merely gather dust in a file. The BBN Post will continue to monitor the investigation and bring you updates as they unfold.
